About Sven Kils

Sven was born in the idyllic town of Münster, Westphalia, Germany. His first camera, back in the 90s, was an analog Pentax from the 70s, which his dad no longer used. Armed with three prime lenses, he embarked on his initial journeys, exploring Sweden, Norway, Iceland, and the Alps.

Feeling most at home in vast landscapes, he continued to travel all around the globe. Layered by outdoor, travel, adventure, wildlife and cultural subjects, Sven is known for images that are punctuated by untamed, powerful nature. His work constantly explores the connections between nature and culture, inviting us to reevaluate our daily personal relationship with the natural wonders that surround us.

In recent years, he has spent approximately half his time in the field and half at home, capturing and polishing moments of vast landscapes and intricate details. His greatest joy is derived from sharing this semi-nomadic lifestyle with his wife, Lucia, and their two sons, Kolja and Béla.

This website aims to connect with fellow photographers, scientists, conservationist, nature enthusiasts and explorers. Therefore, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Pack leight weight

when on longer treks or travels. I went on trails with too much equipment earlier – it was no fun, reducing reach and flexibility. Camera and lenses are protected by custom neoprene sleeves. Then packed into thin but waterproof dry-bags. These bags can be re-used during shooting to cover the camera from rain or sand. Everything is loaded in the upper 3rd of a 80L trekking backpack for easy reach. This way weight is kept to a minimum – which is essential on long treks, where you have to carry food, tent, and all other things.

Minimal field equipment:

Canon 5d Mark IV (+ optional 2nd body),
Canon 24-70 2.8L,
Canon 70-200L 2.8 IS,
+ 2 small waterproof bags to fit into my fjellräven trousers with aprox. 1TB in Cards,
3-5 spare batteries, cleaning tissue, lenspen and
solar charger

+ optional items:
Canon 1.4 or 2x teleconverter,
Canon 17-40 4L,
Canon 100-400 5.6L,
Canon 400 2.8L,
